I just got my TR3AP3 and i am trying to make my recover kit but it when i insert the first dvd+r it says the drive is not ready? What is happening? Anyone know what the problem is?
As gr00vy0ne said, you need to use DVD-RW or DVD-R media. The recovery disks were the first thing I did with my TR3AP3 and they burned flawlessly (according to the installation software). I have not had to use them YET…knock on wood.
can I ask a really stupid question, but what are the recovery disks? what are they recovering the system from? why arent they included as standard? what could go wrong with the vaio that would make you need to use them?
I presume they are to do with the operating software of the vaio?
the recovery discs are used for either restoring ur comp system to the original factory settings (when u got it the first time) or for restoring individual utilities. They are not included as standard (with most of the TR models…atleast I think all of them in USA) since Sony is stupid.
u must have had to do a reinstallation of win xp on ur desktop since xp was misbehaving quite frequently…same thing could happen ur TR or some other system.
I understand that you were to create the recovery discs, and then delete that 5gb off your hard drive (where exactly is that stored?) to free up space. But, what happens if those discs (CD-Rs or DVD-Rs) go bad or break? Would you then be able to contact Sony to get a copy of the recovery CDs (more than likely for a fee, I’m sure)?
i strongly agree..but that’s just how they see it. since they can’t raise the price higher than it already is..they gotta cut costs from somewhere..
ya but when u have to manufacture cd’s/dvd’s in bulk it might cost u may 5-10 cents per cd or may be 20-30 cents a dvd. Would one dollar make a difference to them ?? Afterall we pay them 2-3k for our laptops. And, here’s proof they are really stupid(have mentioned this before):
They provide recovery cd’s with the X505 in which forget internal optical drive, they dont even provide an external one.
[quote author=“Anonymous”]You make a really good point there Rahul. If we can dish out $2-3k on one of their laptops, surely they can dish out the money for the CD-ROMs or DVD. What they’re doing is B-S. :x
That was me that posted this. Can’t believe I forgot to log in.
