Since the drive reads from the center out, the closer the data is to the begining of the drive the faster it is read…the larger discs mean it will take the computer longer to read the part from 40-60GB and beyond. Although it might speed the computer up if you have access to a larger Swap File…

This might be true on an optical drive, but on a hard drive the bits are packed closer together with higher capacities, offsetting any performance hit. It’s like reading data from a CD at 4x and then reading data from a DVD at 4x, you’ll get more from the DVD due to greater areal density. This is basically what gr00vy said above. Also, with new generation hard drives come advances like increased rotational speed and bigger drive buffers that also increase performance.
