I know its a pricing error… but I thought it was a pretty good one Newegg changed all the prices for their Vaio TRs last night and apparently added the TR3A to their stock (previously only had the TR2A, TR3AP1, AP2, etc but no base TR3). However, something got screwed up and they put the TR3AP3 title and description for it (well, almost). I say almost because it lists the dvd-rw and XP Pro but only 512mb mem. On the product page, it unfortunately states Model# PCGTR3A, but when you add to cart, it says Part#: PCGTR3AP3. The only one that really matters is the newegg stock number, which is different then the actualy tr3ap3 stock number, so who knows if thats for an tr3a or tr3ap3. I was thinking about ordering just to see if it would be canceled, but Im thinking you will probably just get a tr3a. Still a good price for the tr3a, so if anyone wanted to try… please report back

Yeah, I know the item number is different, but who knows what that item number points to at newegg… a tr3a or tr3ap3. Do you really think if they sent you a tr3a, they wouldnt refund your money since the invoice and item description would be completely wrong?

i think it will refer to tr3a since tr3ap3 has another number.  when u add it to the shopping cart, it’s tr3ap3, but when you order it, it says tr3a

like he said, u can try it.  you can argue that u want the pc as described in the item description with the dvd-rw.  i wouldn’t mind paying that price for a dvd-rw and 512 mb ram, the dvd-rw is the one that cost alot

if you do decide to order it, don’t forget to save the page into your hard-drive so you have something to back your argument…

what’s everybody experience with newegg?

i m kind of willing to risk it cause like skitals said, it might work, but the problem is the non refund policy.  assuming they give it like in spec, so total for me around $2200 since i live in california and plus BT upgrade ($150), total around $2350

newegg rocks… I buy stuff from there at least once a month. never had any problems and they are extremely fast. never heard anything bad about newegg.

i saw the same thing sat night when shopping for a tr.  they basically screwed up on the description.  the model# is pcg-tr3a.  i was seriously thinking about getting the tr3a and acting like why my notebook didn’t come with xp pro and a dvdrw and try to get something out of it but i needed a notebook right away and got the tr2ap1.  i paid 1899 plus shipping.  do u guys think that is a good deal?

25cent, when you add the messed up tr3ap3 to the shopping cart it said model #: tr3ap3. That description in the cart (says tr3ap3, xp pro, dvd-rw, etc) is exactly what will be on your packaging invoice. So if you got a tr3a in the mail, you could just say this is not what i ordered… and it isnt.

But regardless… Im probably gonna get that tr2a from newegg. Best price I have found. One thing though… the tr2a on newegg clearly says XP Pro… but I thought xp pro was only on the tr2ap1? Im thinking it could be another typo and you will get a tr2 with XP Home.

Whatever I get, Im planning on making the recovery cd’s, and wiping the drives and installing xp pro w/ service pack 2 slipstreamed, then installing the sony drivers and software i want, and use whatever DVD and burning software i want.

skitals…it is the tr2ap1 on newegg…look at the model#..well i’ll let you know when i get the notebook tomorrow.

i got my tr2ap1 today…looked at the lcd and noticed that i had 3 dead pixels.  bummer…i called newegg and they said they won’t exchange it and that i needed to contact sony.

I bought my TR2AP1 from New Egg as well ... and aggravated over the order until I had it in my hand.  I actually bought the TR3A from Fry’s to “try out” for two weeks before deciding that the TR really was for me.  What sold me was the awesome Sony screen, so I was really worried that the one I’d from New Egg would have a fubar screen.  First thing I did when I took it out of the box was run some RGB test screens ... all clear! 

I almost decided to stick with the Fry’s unit because it had a flawless sceen, but concluded that the NewEgg discount was worth the price difference.  I rationalized it this way: new laptops come out all the time.  In 3 or 6 months, if there’s something better, it wouldn’t be too tough to sell the current unit on eBay and put the money towards something ... better?

Still, it wouldn’t hurt to check on Sony’s return policy…

Fry’s has an extremely liberal return policy. Most items have a 30 day full return policy. Some electronics items only have 15 day return policies. In almost all cases you get a full refund unless you lose an item from the original packaging. They will only assess a restocking fee if you’re missing items from the packaging.

A lot of times when I’m trying to decide on some expensive item there a sales associate will actually tell me just to buy it and try it out and return it if I don’t like it. I did that recently with a DLP projector (which is awesome). I’ve been playing with it for the last week and will return it later this week.

That’s why everyone loves Fry’s…but it sucks because the return line is so frickin’ long all the time.

Yeah, they will either do that or simply return it back to Sony and let them refurbish it or something. Fry’s has tremendous buying power (as they also own Outpost.com) and many vendors are willing to take back product from them without any hassle.

Also, sometimes, Fry’s will simply re-sell the product but at a slight discount. There’s usually a sticker on the box to let you know if any product has been returned.

Yes, refurbished does not necessarily mean there was a problem with the system. It just means that the product may have been returned but cannot be sold for new.

Refurbished or reconditioned is about the same. They return the system to near new condition for re-selling it. In some cases, the product has a full warranty and in other cases you get a basic 90-day warranty with the option to purchase a full 1-year (or more) warranty.
