I just got Unreal Tournament 2004 the other day and the game is AMAZING. Im planning on getting a TR2A soon, and was wondering if it has the power to play the game. The game seems to be very well optimized and is extremely fast on my desktop. Here are the games minimum requirements:

Pentium III or AMD Athlon 1.0 GHz processor (Pentium® or AMD 1.2GHz or greater recommended)
128MB RAM (256MB RAM or greater recommended)
5.5GB HDD space REQUIRED
8X CD-ROM or DVD
Windows® compatible sound card
32 MB video card required (64 MB NVIDIA or ATI hardware T&L card recommended)
DirectX® version 9.0b (included on game disc)
Internet (TCP/IP) and LAN (TCP/IP) play supported. Internet play requires a 33.6 kbps or faster modem (broadband recommended)

So, the TR seems to meet the specs, Im just concerned about the video card. In the settings menu it really lets you dim down the graphics settings so Im hoping it will be able to play fast with the lowest settings.

I just tried it. It sorta works. You probably have to lower the resolution to 512x384 and run it at the lowest settings but it seems somewhat playable. You’ll definitely need a mouse connected for better enjoyment.

I tried the retail version it and in my opinion it’s unplayable. Even with the details set on the lowest settings it looks and runs poorly. (it does run - but what’s the point)

This game is a blast to play. Just not on this notebook without a video and perhaps processor upgrade (

That being said, if you don’t mind stepping back a few years, Unreal Tournament (original) runs flawlessly at the highest resolution. What we need is a vehicle mod for it.. That might be worthy of a personal project.

I’m also a fan of the Thief series. Both Thief and Thief 2 The Metal Age run are playable on the TR.

Isnt the tr1 only 800mhz? Think it could make any difference on the 1ghz tr2/tr3? emiisdev, you didnt specify which tr you tried it on.

The TR1 is 900 MHz, but that’s not the problem. The Intel Extreme Graphics chip in the TR and most other Centrino subnotebooks is pretty basic and is designed with power consumption, not speed in mind. It doesn’t even have hardware T&L processing. The last ATi card I bought requires power directly from the computer’s power supply (not just the AGP port) to function properly.

My 9800 requires a power connector as well.

Yeah, Im obviously not getting the TR to be a gaming device Im jsut rather obessed with this game after only 2 days and was thinking this would be cool… especially if you could get widescreen resolution in the game (unlikely).

What would be cool is if there were a usb graphics card you could use for gaming… wonder if that would ever be possible.

I think it could be possible. I’ve heard of external render boxes that big time 3D artists use. Kind of the same idea, an external box, processing the graphics. The only problem is, the last time i heard about those things, it was £12,000 :shock:  :shock:  :shock:
