Actually the software in the article is version 3.3. However, after you install it, it will say it’s 3.1. There’s a disparity in the software numbering somewhere. As of right now, it is the latest version that we know of.
I had the same strangeness. I had the older BlueSpace from the BT dongle and tried to upgrade with the link found elsewhere on this site. The installer automatically uninstalled the older version and installed the newer one… or so it said. I had some strange problems with dial-up with the new BS (in addition to the version mismatch), so I went back to the older one on the CD. I eventually uninstalled BS 3.1 with the Add/Remove Programs applet, and reinstalled BS 3.3. That seemed to work.

That is odd. When I installed the software downloaded from the article link it did say 3.1, but comparing it side by side with your articles pictures it looked very different. I did not have the connection navigation green button and the layout was different. Plus it was 3.1 software that was labeled/copyrighted 1998.
After installing the version Jackson linked to now it says 3.3.00.10140 and copyright 2001, 2002, 2003, and has the green connection navigation button and matches the software you have pictured in your article. So for some reason I got 3.1 software on that link, very odd.
I too had a little difficulty installing the updated version of BSNE. I had already installed 3.1 from the CD which came with the BT dongle. It took a few attempts but finally got 3.3 to install.
I placed my order yesterday at the Sony site, on screen both products were in stock, after receiving te email confirmation, it said the cable was backordered 60 days, they charged my card for the whole amount and gave me a shipping guide.
After reading some of the previous posts, I think my order is coming in tomorrow complete, I can’t wait to have the first PCG-TR1F (latin american model) with blue tooth integrated, thanks groovy one.
One question what link should I use for BSNE, the one provided in the tutorial or the latter one in this thread?
Use the link in the article for the driver and the wireless switcher utility, but use the newer link in this post for the bluespace 3.3 newer software.
Anyone brave enough to pull out the hacksaw be sure and let us know if it is the same module. It is too late for me and I am very happy with a dedicated module from the parts shop. I just wish it was easier to find a small footprint bluetooth mouse (trackball) for traveling.
[quote author=“SpineDOc”]How does the kcap program work? I have put the kcap executable in the same directory as the SONY.PAC file and am opening a command prompt and typing in: kcap SONY.PAC c:\temp I get a couple of flashes of the hard drive light but nothing shows up in c:\temp.
I finally got around to putting in this module. Similar to SpineDoc initially, I cant figure out how to extract the SONY.PAC file using the KAP program. How is this done?
If you follow the directions in my tutorial it will work. However, you need to give it a little time to finish. When you run it from the command line (using a CMD window) it will bring you back to the prompt almost immediately as if it didn’t do anything.
However, if you look at your hard disk light it should be blinking like crazy. Furthermore, if you peek at Task Manager you should see the kcap.exe process working and you should also see the files starting to occupy the directory you chose to extract to.
I think the kcap program has problems extracting to a directory that is very embedded, possibly a limitation of the original command prompts limitations on length of directory names?
I originally tried to extract to a directory in my documents, embedded probably 4 or 5 directories deep. When that did not work I moved kcap and the sony.pac to my c:\ drive and extracted to c:\temp from there, worked like a charm.
That was it, I was trying to install it down about 5 directories. Even though I was directing the commands down through the command prompt, it wasn’t working. Once I put the kcap and SONY.PAC files into the c:\ directory, it worked. Thanks SpineDOc, and thanks GrOOvyOne for your great instructions. The hardware installation for both the Netegriti card and the Bluetooth were a breeze.
When I was in there, I did notice another open male connector in there, similar to the bluetooth one. It was just to the left of the optical drive. In fact, you can see it in your Netegriti Card Install Instructions, the one with the three red arrows pointing out what internal screws to remove. It is just above the middle screw to be removed.
Here is some more info for the guys…I just called Sony Hong Kong with your Bluetooth Module p/n. It has been superceded with a new number which is 1-234-803-22.
They won’t sell me one here because they want me to get their service dept to do the job but they did quote only $55 US for the part, installation extra.
PN 1-234-803-22 is now showing up on the US Sony parts website although it is not in stock yet.
