Finally got the cash to afford the upgrades (G & BT).  Groovy, thanks so much for the guides, everything worked great.

to anyone who is going to do either upgrade:

The inside screws are VERY tiny! Much smaller than the outside screws

You don’t need to unscrew the Harddrive harness, you can take out the CD easily by removing just two screws.

The screw on the right of the CD harness is underneath another wire, it is not the one that screws into the small daughterboard (i unscrewed the wrong one!)

Finally, the led cover part, with the bluetooth logo, comes with adhesive on it, you don’t need to go out and buy some (like I did) in preperation.

Now all i need to do is wait for my macmice to come!

nice-  sounds like you did a great job.  I just blew a couple hundred once again towards my TR so I am going to wait…..

First off, thanks to all for invaluable information on the installation of the internal BT. I have done the physical installation but I am having a little trouble with the software side of things.

When I rebooted my computer (after having had it recognize my cell phone as a new device but unable to transfer files to it…) my VCOMM drivers were gone. it tells me that they are not installed, but I clearly have them in my installation history.

When I go to Device Manager, I have no exclamation marks… but my BT VCOMM PORT and sub devices BT Virtual Com4 and OPEN INTERFACE VCOMM Control Driver for WinSock do not show up…

any insights? BTW I was the guest formerly known as “Curious TR” asking questions about installation of the lens.

There have been several posts regarding supply of these parts for us folks based in the UK.

I have spent many hours going thru the various UK laptop repairers and finally ending up at sony-style spare parts.

They told me that there is no way they can or will supply the parts, or in fact any parts. They simply repair or replace faulty units when sent in. Outside of that nothing…zip…nought! They will not even do the upgrade for you (or me for that matter). Offers of money made no difference.

So, if there is an helpful enterprising person based in the US who wants to help us us out I am sure you will be rewarded.

I have also checked out the internatioanl shipping by some of the spare parts sites based in the US. These sites want up to US$600 to set up a US based mail box. So no go there.

dbs, i can get the bluetooth to reconnect, but i can’t get the proximity function to work with fma

Just completed the BLUETOOTH upgrade.  It was actually much easier than i thought it was going to be.

Everything installed great and without any setbacks.

I haven’t been able to test it on any BLUETOOTH devices yet cause i don’t have any currently.  Everything seems to be in working order though. I plan on getting a BLUETOOTH phone here in Jan. to double as a dialup modem.

Does anyone know if this will work with my TR5AP?  I just ordered the Belkin GPS unit and think this mod would make the icing on the cake.

It works for all TR models.
