Actually, SP2 works even better with the Bluetooth part.

Anyone know if these same parts work on the Sony VGN-A190?

probably the same bt parts as the one on sony VGN-A197XP.. if you do the research..it may be possible to add bt on to your A190..

I have scoured the internet and I cannot find a straight answer.  I hate to blow $120 on som parts that will not be compatible. 

Does anyone know - will the this upgrade work the VGN-A190? 

The items I have found are:

Sony # 123480322 BLUETOOTH MODULE
Sony # 182726621 CABLE, COAXIAL (WITH U.F.L

You’re probably barking in the wrong group. None of us have a Type A notebook and there’s no way to know if the Type A even has the capacity to accept Bluetooth.

You can either try to get a service manual from Sony, open up your Type A yourself and see if there’s some sort of port for it, or find try a more general notebook group. Vaiovillage.com might be more helpful.

Given that the Japanese VAIO site shows that the Type A can come with Bluetooth as an option then you might be in luck. Of course, no one knows which part they are using. You may have to be the pioneer in this….someone has to be.

Well, after many searches and just a few trials - I have done it.

In case you own a Sony A Series and you want to add the sony Bluetooth.  You need these two parts

180555411 - Bluetooth Module
A1058407A - CABLE,BT ANTENNA

And if you want a new bezel that shows the Bluetooth logo - add:

468244901 -SE1 LENS PANEL CTO (with bluetooth icon)

It was a snap to install - whole process took about 15 minutes. (I have got it down how to open up the laptop).

Once I turned on my laptop - the Blue light appeared on the front. At first I had a problem with the bluetooth as I did not have any software to install or drivers.

I followed the instructions here http://www.jonsguides.com/bluetooth/index.html and installed the IBM universal driver set.

I am happy and proud to say I was able to add bluetooth to my Sony Vaio A190 without a hitch. I took pictures of the process and I might document how to swap memory from the location under they keyboard, change hard drives, or add bluetooth.

If you follow the same instructions and you are using windows xp, you might need to manually add the drivers. This is easy - you can follow the instructions here after you have done the main install - http://www.jonsguides.com/bluetooth/manual.html

hi, gr00vy0ne,  do you mind posting an article of upgraing to SP2 of win xp pro. I heard a lot of bad news for this SP2. i am not sure whether it worth a try. could you please share some experience.?

Honestly, there isn’t much too it. I haven’t had any bad experiences on it on my 5 machines. I would recommend making a full backup before install it if you’re really concerned about it. Overall, it’s a very easy process and all you do is follow the wizards.

I think that’s a software, not bluetooth,  issue. I’ve lost connection with my GPS and had it reconnect.

I turn on my BT mouse and it automatically works.

I assume you’re using FMA. I have a T68i and most of the time it reconnects fine. Sometimes FMA has a problem when resuming from hibernate. I can usually tell it to connect and it will. I’ve never had to mess with bluetooth settings in XP to get it back on.

Since FMA is a work in progress, you might expect a few problems once in a while.

You might check in control panel, bluetooth, options and see if the allow other devices to connect box is ticked.

Since BT is a master/slave protocol, you might try pairing in both directions and see which gives you better performance. I’m pretty sure I had the TR discover the T68 rather than the other way around.
