Will this upgrade work for all TRs? From TR1 to TR3? Does the different chipset make a difference?

When I backordered mine, it took about two weeks for it to ship. Then shipping was another week or so. Hopefully you guys will get yours sooner.

Well, I can only vouch for the TR1 but I’m almost 99% sure it will work in all TRs as they really haven’t changed at all since they were first released. The basic support chipset hasn’t changed and they’re pretty much all the same except for the wireless part (which is discrete anyways).

Hmmm.  The order confirmation from sony has an ETA of 60 days.  Perhaps I will have to cancel and order from SpareParts Warehouse.  If anything, I thought Sony might get them a little quicker, but I guess not.

Also don’t forget that you will essentially need the cable as well. Of course, I don’t know the exact part number for that but I suspect it is 182726621. I haven’t verified this yet…although I do know that the cable costs ~$25 and also has to be backordered.

Well, wait until later tonight after I get home from my rehearsal…when I try out the cable part that I ordered (non-Sony). Expect the write up really really late tonight PST…or early tomorrow morning.

If you’re really desperate why not order from both? When one ships, cancel the other.

Between this upgrade and the DVD-RW, I’m looking at another ~$450…man.

btw, i assume that the cable you mention is OEM sony, isn’t it?  this number, 182726621.  is this the same cable Sony use for the Z1 series?  u might look at the Z1 spare parts and maybe can find it just like the way you find your BT board…

one more thing, this is just in my mind, can you order the front panel part directly from japan?  if so, it will make a USDM TRx exactly like the JDM TRx with the bluetooth writing all over it… 

last but not least, after you have install it and work flawlessly, will you put all the drivers into one zip file with a ReadMe instruction on how to install it?  maybe someone here can host the file…

thanks a lot for the effort.  i m a potential TR user and i m very excited about this.  i also read the post about how to upgrade the wireless LAN to a TR3 spec.  very informative…

My third party cable worked even though it is a bit too long. I must have misread the specifications. I thought I ordered the 200mm cable (which is the shortest they had) but instead I got the 500mm cable (which is way more than what is needed). I snaked it around the insides neatly and it’s hiding under the palmrest area. The end result is that it totally works and my Bluetooth range has increased dramatically.

For ultimate geekiness, I opened WinAMP, played MP3s, and increased the volume wirelessly using my Sony Ericsson phone…from 15 feet away. I’m extremely happy. I may revisit shortening the cable but I’m not too familiar with cutting coaxial cables…especially when they’re only 1.13mm thick.

Ok, I must compile my notes and photos for the complete write up…only a couple of hours before I post it.

No, I didn’t buy the Sony part…first of all, they didn’t have it in stock and I was too impatient to wait for it so I decided to do more investigation on what kind of cable is needed. I tracked down a cable maker how makes the special kind of cable. Unfortunately, they only sell them in lengths of 200, 500 or 1000mm. I thought I ordered 200 but got 500 instead. So, it’s a little longer than I would like but it works and only cost me like $8…compared to the $25 that Sony wants for their part.
