What is the best way to transfer large files between my TR and desktop through firewire?  Or can you even do this?  It is too slow to use my network.

Firewire will probably work a little better than your ethernet connection but not much more. The main issue is hard disk speed. The TR’s hard disk is capable but not stellar.

If both systems are Windows XP then you only need to simply plug the two systems together and start copying over. I don’t believe you even need to disable the ethernet connection when doing this. Windows XP does a decent job of automatically using the faster connection (in my experience) so you don’t need to tell it which one to use.

however, can you send data between say TR3 and Clie using wi-fi? or doesn’t only works in receive mode?

If you’re running Windows XP on both systems then you don’t have to install any special software. Windows XP will automatically setup a “network adapter” if you have Firewire installed. When you plug in two firewire enabled computers you will see a notification of a 400Mbps connection. The cable depends on the types of computers you’re connecting to. Most likely you’ll need a 4-to-6 pin cable (assuming your other computer has a 6-pin firewire connector). Otherwise, there are 4-to-4 pin cables as well.

I don’t have an answer for your second question as I don’t have a Wi-Fi enabled Clie…have you checked out http://www.cliesource.com?

Did you notice my final post on the last marathon debate we had.

It’s 4-pin and has a proprietary, Sony-only power connector - effectively making it 4-pin only.

If you want to SYNC your Clie then I know it will work with Bluetooth (if your Clie is BT capable).  I don’t know about WiFi.  I have not tried that.
