Recently my TR had started given me frequent BSOD’s within the first few mins of getting into windows. Even safe mode would give me BSOD. I then restored an image (acronis true image) I had created a long time ago and that too gave BSOD’s after starting up. I then tried a disk check (which ran on bootup) and during the 5th cycle, my computer rebooted. I also tried removing each memory module and running them individually in either slot…BSOD again :(

However the time it takes to get BSOD varies. Windows desktop loads and then it might be almost instantaneous or take a few mins at times.

Is it the end of my TR?

I need it for XP and I need XP for running VB6 and an VB6 app I had created a long time ago.

Is your wireless switch turned on when this happens? 

I’ve found that my XP TR will BSOD when there is a channel conflict with certain wireless routers (Linksys).  Try turning off the wireless for a while and see if that helps.  If it does help, then go someplace else with your TR and see if you can connect to a public wireless network and work without the BSOD.  If you are successful, it is a channel conflict with a local router.

Thanks for your reply. I will give it a try and post back. It’s very much possible that that’s whats happening since I just moved into a new place and it started right after that.

So, I did a few tests over the last few days and noticed that when the wireless switch was turned off, I got no BSOD’s and frequent BSOD’s when turned on. Yesterday I restored another copy of XP using True Image and that too gave me BSOD when the wireless was turned on but it allowed me to read the BSOD message. On typing that message code in google, I saw several posts suggesting problems with the wireless just like you did. I downloaded a newer driver from the Intel site for 2200BG and upgraded the driver on my TR and since then no more BSOD’s even with wireless turned on. After doing this update, I can even connect to my home WPA2 network which I previously wasn’t able to.

All I can say is THANK YOU SO MUCH for your help. Without your suggestion, I was 100% sure my TR was toast (since it was giving BSOD’s even with a newly restored copy of XP which was bizarre since those copies worked just fine in the past).

Glad I could help.  It is an unusual problem for sure.

Updating to Windows 7 resolved my issue on one of my TR’s.  On my other TR with XP still installed, the issue still exists.  I’ll do what you did, so thanks for your help too.

How fast does windows 7 run on the TR?
Did you have the identical issue on both TR’s (If yes, that’s truly bizarre…almost like the software had some kind of time bomb inside it…update it or else deal with BSOD’s)?

Hello Rahul.  Yes, I had the same issue when both were running XP.  It had everything to do with a specific wireless router that I was using.

To answer your question about Windows 7 on the TR3A, it works great.  Much faster than XP.  Smaller kernel, less memory.  You might check the other thread in the forum on How to Install Windows 7 for other notes.

Cool, that’s great to hear. I was running Vista on my quad core desktop for a week or so with 1 gb RAM and it was horrible. Now I got 4gb RAM in there so it’s much better…I might upgrade that to Windows 7 soon…
