I’m trying to upgrade my PCG-TR3AP’s hard drive, ram, and dvd burning drive. 

Sony’s esupport website lists the UJ-812 & UJ-812 burners.. are these the only compatible dvd burners?  Is there somewhere I can find a full list of compatible dvd burners? (I have a UJDA755 that works fine with cds, but won’t read dvds, has anyone run into this problem? I did a clean install of XP Pro and believe I updated all drivers needed from Sony’s site - I don’t have any recovery cds )

For the RAM will any matching PC-xxxx (whatever is it) work?

For the HDD I read recommendations for the Toshiba MK8007GAH, but I’d like a larger drive than 80gb; will any 1.8” drive work?  Does anyone know where I can find a full compatibility list for HDDs?

I know there’s a lot of questions there Any help anyone can give would be much appreciated!!  Thanks.

The UJ-812 is probably the best upgrade… I’m afraid I’m not aware of a full listing though.  There shouldn’t be any unusual restrictions on RAM upgrades beond somehthing that physicaly fits the slot.  Due to the somewhat unique (now) nature of the hard drives, the MK8007GAH is the largest hard drive available for the TR series.  Newer drives and laptops use SATA drives, which this older model does not support.

Feel free to ask any other questions.  I have the same TR model as you and I’ve done some upgrades including the bluetooth module and the UJ-812.

You can upgrade the hard drive to anything that will fit the 1.8” form factor, I used a CF to IDE adaptor and had no problems as well as various SSD’s.  As for Ram, I believe it’s max is 1Gig anyway as the motherboard won’t detect anything higher :(  As for DVD drives, it shouldn’t matter which drive you use, however you’ll need it to fit correctly with the right angles, ie, the SONY CD/DVD is not a square but trapazoid shape, some DVD drives will have the connector on the right or left and may not reach as well the tray cover should have the button on the right not in the center or left or it will look funny when it’s installed.
