Hello all,
I had to take a trip to the states recently which involved wiping my machine to a zero start point. I took the opportunity to try and remove some of the bloat from Windows and edge out some memory for Applications.
The result - only 80mb memory usage after boot. Leaving a whopping 420mb (in X505 speak) for other applications. This (even without an SSD) will stretch out the life of the machine by some length of time.
TinyXP is available from various sources and we all have valid XP licenses for our X505s. All specialist drivers are available from Sony websites. It was a fairly painless install - and VERY quick.
Hard drive space used after installation was about a gig (600MB windows folder) - leaving a whopping (X505 terms) of 17gb free!
Paired with Google’s chrome the machine runs mightily speedily when compared to the factory bloat ware installation.
I would definitely recommend this to all of those looking to get the most out of their ageing (gracefully) X505s…
Am running: TinyXP Rev09(5) - Service Pack 3
