Any one having trouble with disk sets. I have found out how to change the model type in the bios for the PCG models. This will allow you to use different language recovery disks on your machine.

I would love this information.  I replaced my TR2’s motherboard with a TR1 motherboard and would like to be able to use my TR2 recovery DVDs just in case.  Please post or PM the info.  Thanks

I have found a disk that will let you change the bios settings on the PCG models. You need to get the model number and serial number of the model you want to change it to.
visit http://www.sonyrecovery.co.uk and there is a bios disk as an image that you can download. You should also be able to update your bios to the latest as well.

If you can done that, good for you. What I definitely know that, beside the Model numbers of VGN and PCG, each machine has a unique UUID number. It is the combination of NIC mac address and other unknown secret information. All that information including model number, serial number, bios and user password are keep in a serial EEPROM, not in BIOS. So you cannot change something in BIOS to make it works with recovery set of other model.

Your right to a degree. You can only change the model across the same family. So you can change a german Z1SP to a UK Z1SP or a japanese C1 to a UK C1. I would have thought that you cannot change a model to be a different model like make an FX model to a GRX model.
