It is apparent that Sony is no longer making desktops. First they stop the making PDA’s now desktops.
Did they announce the halt of them?

I have not heard of any US news of desktops not being produced any more. I guess they are just taking it in a different direction of making Digital Home PCs for the living room like VGX series and LS/LT series. Japan is still cranking out a true desktop - RM series.
