is it a screen of death?? i turned it on today using ‘network smart capture’ and the sony camera from my computer.  both showed white screen.  but the power is ON.  I can see the green light is turning ON.

does it mean my camera is dead? or just lose connection?  Last time I tried my camera, it was still working, but i think it was in year 06 somehow.

anyone know?

white death, black death, or fuzzy line death, it’s all the same…...death

There was some discussion that it could be connector, but I’ve now had about 12 used TR’s and of the 12 only 3 cameras worked when I got them, now only 2 work all the others are dead hardware, not one was a bad connection..

Motion Eye, think I’ve found a cheap replacement…..

it’s weird though.  i never use the camera EVER (< 10 times max) and the last time was in 06 and it worked. 

if it’s hardware failure, at least if i use it heavily, i get it, but i just never use it.

if it’s really hw, then sony is really messed up

The camera is a USB device and although it’s not active until you initiate it in the my computer window it’s permanently powered. Someone in one of the past motion eye topics mentioned this. Also some models (tr2mp I think) had a standard screen saver that used the camera while running.

either way they die and death seems random and like I said I must have 12 here and now only 2 work… crappy component or design, no one would be bothered if the replacement from Sony was $20, but when is over $150 with shipping it’s not funny!!

If it’s powered all the time, no wonder then because my TR is like my desktop, almost 24 hours non stop, so that’s a lot of hours.  But still, that’s a bad design though.  The camera shouldn’t be powered all the time, only when it’s turned on manually by users…

how hard to change the CCD?  Also how much? If it’s $150, that’s expensive cause now TR is like $500

The main problem is cost and availability of the replacement especially as it’s more than likely to die equally as soon. you can use PCGA-UVC11A but that is now near impossible to find at a decent price too…
