I knew this would be too easy and probably would not work.

I have a TR1A I really want to upgrade to WINXP Pro. Have tried several times with 90% success.

I was looking aroud the sony web site and found a set of PCG-TR1AP recovery disks. I went ahead and bought them to take a chance. I paid $70.00 for these

Well during boot-up it just says incorect machine type. I suspect that the machine type is locked somewhere.

Any ideas how to change this?

Well, that answers the question we had before as to whether or not the recovery disks are model-locked. The machine type is in the BIOS, so you’re not going to change that easily. There’s probably a line in an .ini or .inf file on the CD that you can change… but I don’t know what it would be. If you have a copy of XP Pro lying around, you can use the instructions in this thread to help you.

Mabey I will do some searching around for some INI files. Not to much time now. I am getting ready to go to China for 2 1/2 weeks to adopt a little one.

I actually used the thread here to install XPPRO and it worked ok. I just had a lot of trouble getting all the little bells and whistles that the default installe comes with.

I attempted to install a copy on Windows Longhorn last week and this was about 95% sucessfull. I might just go back to that.

Also, I read the review on the Sony USB Blutooth here an bought one. For me , What a piece of junk. I primarily wanted to use it with my Plantronics M3000 headset. I even upgrade to the latest version of BluSpace NE. No dice. I was only able to get the Belkin USB Blutooth to almost work.

I guess what really sparke me is the fact that my Sony DCR-IP7BT camera will not work with the sony bluetooth and the sony TR1A.
