I searched abit, but it doesn’t seem like people change the drive much.

Anyway after using the UJ-812 for about 2 and a half years I think I’ve worn out the DVD burning laser. It burned it’s last DVD-R today I think. Which is not so cool considering it’s the fastest burner I have that’s still working. :(

I decided to log in and post up topic in search for tips and models that are possible replacements/upgrades.

Currently looking into getting a UJ-842S, but a UJ-842D would probably be just as good. I haven’t disassembled my TR before so I have no idea if there is a need to disassemble it to remove the optical drive. Hopefully there is someone who’s got experience in this field that can answer/give me tips to my query.

I replaced my DVD a few months ago after it hadn’t been working for over a year.  It’s easier (and more reliable) just to get an external USB drive, but I needed to boot off of CDs occassionally.
