The current (failed) disk is the Tosh MK4004GAH which is now discontinued. Can anyone help with which other Tosh drives are compatable with the TRA3P?

MK4004GAH is not discontinued.  Just google it and you shall find countless stores selling it—pretty reasonable prices too.  Might as well go with the 60gb, or for significantly more $$, 80gb (MK6006GAH and MK8009GAH).  Will have to wait and save for a bit longer for the recently announced 100gb (MK1011GAH).

I bought mine from computer giants, however I bought mine for around 163 or so (~183 with 2 day shipping)...a big jump in price since they are selling it for 200 now.

Hey, arent the connectors diffrent for the Toshiba 60GB (MK6006GAH) and the 80GB (MK8009GAH) Hard Drives. Atleast the coonector looks diffrent for the 80GB. Can some one confirm whether the connectors for the Toshiba Hardrives are the same from 40GB and up.

The 40 gb (MK4004GAH) and 60 gb (MK6006GAH) definitely have the same connectors since I replaced my 40 gb hdd with the 60gb one, can’t say anything for the 80 gb model.

He rahul,is the toshiba drive quieter than the hitachi one. My hitachi drive makes this clicking noise. It runs perfectly fine, but dont know if the noise is normal or not.

I think thats something common. My toshiba hdd that came originally came with my TR started clicking about 5-6 months (I guess) after purchase. A few months before it crashed it became even more frequent and data used to get corrupted occasionally. My new one hasn’t yet started the clicking and hopefully it will stay this way for long.

Some people say that the clicking noise comes from the heads being parked but according to me that doesn’t make sense else shouldn’t that noise come right from the beginning?

My newly installed Hitachi 60gb makes the occasional clunk from the beginning.
