Hey, did you guys check out the new OQO 2. What do you guys think or is it just worth making fun of like the last model. Personally i think it ight give sony a run for their money.
You might have a point there Erik. I tried out the Sony UX at circuitcity the other day. I found the UX a bit bulky to hold.. despite the fact the first word out of my mouth was “wow” after actually holding it. I have yet to hold the new OQO2. However, i am thoroughly impressed by the dock/dvdrw that can be purchased separately for the OQO2.
The OQO is still a bit pricy for what you get but this model is definately a huge improvement over the previous one. The UX isn’t bulky at all but i did find myself using the keyboard less and less as it was a bit tricky to actually use in practice.
I think the UX still wins on features. Interestingly it suffered from the same battery drain every Vaio I’ve ever had suffered from; if i left it from fully chrged state for a couple of days and then fired it up the battery was almost empty. None of my other subnotebooks have done this, i can leave the Libretto U100 in standby for two weeks and it still shows good battery level, but the Vaios chew power even when not on. If you take the battery off the unit and leave it for a couple of days when you put the batt on and ifre it up it shows full charge.
But i digress, the UX is best served for typing if you dock it and use a full size keyboard, or use a bluetooth keyboard or use the handwriting recognition, but the thumb board is not very useful and i assume the OQO will be the same.
i think the OQO 02 is a great improvement over the 01, i played with it in CES last week for quite a while, the speed is pretty good on win xp. it got me so excited to buy one, becoz it is really light.
as for the keyboard, it is just the personal pref, however, i think the build in mouse/track stick is quite useful as compare to touch screen
I love my UX90s but the built in keyboard is one of the worst I have ever used on any unit. If the sidekick, treo and blackberry can get it right, why can’t sony? They keys are way too widely spread out. And it would really help to have a shift key on the rightside as well as they left. But for web surfing on the go, it’s great. For light typing or data entry it is passable. Anything more, I’d use my TX. That’s why i just bought the TX.
