I looked around a bit on Chinese/Korean/Japanese websites about the TX4 and it seems to have the exact same specs of the TX3, the Core Solo ULV processor and everything. Seems strange, what was added then? :?
This is of course pure speculation, but the fact that Sony labels a new Vaio “TX4” with the same specs as TX3 makes one wonder: Is it possible that Sony by using the TX4 name in Malaysia for a unit with the same specs as the TX3, gives us a signal that there will be no TX4 with new and better specs? In other words: Will the TX series be discontinued? Or will the next model with better specs be called TX5? Perhaps unlikely, I will say…
My earlier depressed thoughts about a possible, but quite unlikely, discontinuation of the TX model will not be reality, I think. On 26 September on the following website, one can read this:
“the deal with Sprint means that the Vaio notebooks can connect with the Sprint Power Vision SM network, which the telecommunications company is working to upgrade later this year in some markets to EV-DO Rev A technology for greater broadband speed.
Also on Tuesday, Sony said its 2007 road map for the Vaio TX series would continue the rollout of Sprint network integration as EV-DO Rev A technology becomes available.
For the past two years, Sony has been working to win more commercial business with solution providers by producing a lineup of business-focused Vaio laptops, including the TX and BX lines.”
I’m going to guess at three TX5 models. Same 11.1in WXGA screen. Bluetooth. More or less the same form factor. Vista presumably. HSDPA very doubtful this iteration (just one SZ4 model with that).
RicoLance21, what about new colors? I can’t figure out for sure from the Japanese web site what colors the new model will have, but it seems that the platinum (white) is replaced with a pink/red-like color. Can it really be so?

Are the improvements for TX4 good enough to make Vista run smoothly and fast enough (as fast as Windows XP on TX3)?
About the form factor: Many cherish the TX form factor - elegant and “clean”. Will a Dual Core 2 processor demand a change “under the hood” with regard to heat dissipation or something else?

The Core 2 Duo ULV chips (one of them being a 1.2GHz dual core) that are scheduled to be released in the 3rd quarter of this year are supposed to have a TDP of 5W. A U1400 has a TDP of 5.5W, so technically, the cooling shouldn’t need any changes (it should work a bit better).
Current Core Duo ULV (not Core 2) chips have a much higher TDP of 9W, which is probably why they haven’t made it into any TX’s (lower battery life and more heat to dissipate).
