Hi Guys,
I am thinking of getting the Japanese x505cp and replacing the keyboard with the US one. Do I need to install the US bios as well or will everything be fine? How about installing Windows XP Pro and the drivers? Will I need to use the Japanese drivers or will the Sony US downloads allow me to install them without any fuss? I’ve previously had issues where it would detect the model and not allow me to install drivers on previous Vaios, thanks.
About installing the English keyboard on a Japanese X505 is a painful process, just find an experience Erik had to go through somewhere in X505 forum. I do not think you need any BIOS, XP Pro can be installed just fine, and you may use the drivers you have on your Japanese recovery CD as they are pretty much universal. Good luck.
The US keyboard on a JAP unit is plug and play. Once you replace the actual keyboard all you need to do is change the keyboard setting in Windows which is a 10 second thing (keyboard in control panel). Everything else should work fine without issue.
The main problem is taking apart the notebook and installing the keyboard. Once that is done the software side is a no brainer and will work perfectly.
