Just found out the difference between the original hard drive and the new Toshiba MK6008GAH that I’ve just purchased - the ZIF connector!

i.e. the new drives have ZIF connectors, but my laptop expects some kind of IDE connector with pins.

Any one got any idea how I might make it work?

This looked promising, but they say it’s too big for the TR5.
 

Perhaps there’s an alternative cable to the one that joins the hard drive to the motherboard?

Made that mistake myself. If I recall correctly, the x008 series are ZIF-based and the x004 + x006 series are PATA. Dabs were good enough (after a little bit of harranguing) to refund me. 

I seriously doubt that you’ll be able to find a replacement cable for it, however. Such things tend to be very proprietary and Sony aren’t in the habit of selling those kinds of spares

That converter is interesting, but it looks like the way to big to fit in the available space.  Maybe some creative hacksawing required?  :twisted:

The x006 series are still availale if you look hard, enough, but I suspect you could do without the extra expense?
