Hello all,
Dont have a lot of time to talk because I am getting ready for a month long trip but wanted to let everyone know that I bought the White, aka Platinum, TXN-15 this monday
I am in love with this machine every time I pick it up I grin like an 18 year old on prom night
The hardware is everything I wanted and more, spent two hours at the sony style store making my backup disks and checking everything out.
Pros:
-Not a single dead pixel.
-Very Bright screen
-DVD drive worked well
-Short cut buttons all worked both in A/V mode and in windows.
Note: When sony power Mang. has the DVD shut down on battery sometimes the eject button takes awhile
-Both USB ports and flash readers are functional.
-Love the keyboard, actually feels better than my other two laptops.
Cons:
-Very sight rise just to the upper left of the touchpad that many have commented on. Doesn’t really bug me but I do worry about the left side of the space bar touching the screen so yesterday I bought a 2mm thick piece of grey fabric covered neoprene that I custom cut and will keep over the keyboard to protect the screen.
Note: When I eventually take the machine apart I think this is fixable, you can push down on the hump so I think it is just a section of the case that doesn’t get sucked down by the screws. Might be able to rig some thing or use a little silicon adhesive?
-This is my first sony machine so I have a lot of work to do figuring out how to work around the bloat-ware which is the worst I have ever dealt with. I am trying to decide between a fresh windows install or doing a partial sony reinstall and getting rid of the partition???
note: Any input would be greatly appreciated.
I like integrated nature of the sony interface ie. power management, A/V buttons, but am frustrated with the drain on system resources. The machine took forever to boot until I trimmed some of the fat. It still takes along time compared to my 1.2 gig Pentium M Dell inspirion. I have not tweeked windows yet or run bootvis because I plan to do incremental changes trying not to interfere with the Sony software.
Anybody know how to get into the bios on a sony machine ???
Well I got to go I will have internet on this upcoming trip so I will post a full review w/ pics after I get settled and finish customizing my case.
Thanks to this forum for all of the input,
Regards,
Fandarel
