hey…

caved in. tr2a died. bought a macbook. 

i know nothing about apples.  and even less about oranges.

i have an external hd formated to XP and my new laptop can read it.  however, my macbook won’t allow me to edit anything on the drive.  how do i enable permission to move/delete files on my external?

Yeh im making that switch too. I’m like selling my s3xp and getting a macbook! Need to know if my maxtor and WD 250 gig hard drives be compatible with it !

To the best of my knowledge, OS X is only able to read NTFS volumes but not write to it.

There is, however, an open source driver that might work for you:

NTFS for Mac OS X

Do note that the developer warns that this should not be installed on 10.4 and 10.3.

It’s true. Mac’s or OSX can read NTFS but can’t write to it. I usually format my external drives with a couple of partitions, FAT32 and NTFS so the mac can read/write to one and the PC can put big files on the other (FAT and NTFS both have some pros/cons)

yea… the idea just wasn’t really favored ‘cause i didn’t exactly want to go pick up another hd to just move files around. oh well
