Hello, and thank you for reading this. I am attempting to repair my X505Sp vaio laptop it is the Us version, but version aside I have several questions.

My power button died on my laptop, I ordered the part from sony twice 55 dollars each time, installed the first one the laptop worked. Closed the laptop up, later in the day it killed the cable again. Tryed another cable was extra careful appeared to be working, when I attempted to photograph it it would not turn on

I noticed that when I had closed the laptop on the right hand side where the hinge is it does not close completely, do you know what does that:? Could it possibly be that the hinge needs to be replaced?

My last question is, in reguards to your parts post, where exactly do I obtain the screwdriver for disassembling the bottom? From sony online or what is the driver called that you use? I would love for you to get back to me, my laptop is sitting on my desk all ready to be repaired I just do not want to screw up again. If you can help thank you

There was some discussion earlier on this page regarding the screwdriver needed.

If I recall, at the time it was reported that Sony did not have the screwdriver available anymore.

The correct driver is a Triwing Microdriver #00.

I picked mine up at the following link for US$2.99 (plus shipping, which was excessive)  

Don’t try a larger Triwing screwdriver (I was only able to find #0, #1 and #2 locally).  The #00 fits perfectly.  All the others are too large.

Sorry, I can’t help you with your power button problem.  Hopefully someone will be along with some advice.

If the cable of your power connector would be killed, you should consider there is a short circuit somewhere on board. When you can open up your X, you can check it up.
X series has only ONE hing at right side, so when you close the X, the left side will close completely but the right side seem to be not due to it is exactly not close completely . You should squeez your X at right side hing and it will close completely as the left side. You may feel the hing on left seem to be loser than the right side. I think the X body is so thin so it is not enough strengh to force the close completely.
Some words for you.

Just to confirm what you are saying, so you are saying the power cable that I am putting in is being killed by the board, and not by the hinge, and that it couldnt possibly be the hinge?

Do all x505s not close correctly? Could it be a hinge problem?

I just lool at my X photos and realized you problem is power connector cable, not power cable. You should check to see which portion on the cable was damaged and then you may know what cause the damage.
I am not sure if all X not close completely but I think it’s almost.
