Vaio T350 - is there a way to replace built-in EDGE modem ?

Greetings !

I’m wondering is it possible to replace built-in EDGE modem with some other modem ?

I’m asking this because modem that is built-in supports GSM 850, 1800 and 1900 frequency (it should be SonyEricsson GC83 modem).
Here in Croatia, two main operators work on GSM 900 frequency which is not supported by modem and therefore I cannot use it.  :(

Is there a way to pop in some other SE modem (GC 85, 86, 89, etc.) which uses GSM 900 frequency ?
