So i m here in a manga cafe in Tokyo enjoying my japan experience lo
as a electronic freak that i am i had to go to the akihabara neighborhood to check out the good deals. What i found there amaized me and i need your advice. They have second hand computer store where i found all the TX for under 1000 euros. They were “used” but really as new not a little scratch or wear marks. they come in the original books with original accesories. Problem is they only deliver a japanese warranty.
Do you think it worths it? Would you guys give it a try?

I actually have a japanese TR. I bought it from a company specialised in importing japanese high-end laptops with warranty only available in japan. In the case of I need to occupy SONY-service they offered me to send it to japan EUR 50,- shipping and handlich not exceeding. It was the only way. I never need SONY-service and this company is not famous for its service… (I read right here)
In my opinion you don’t need warranty at all and I don’t know how they would handle warranty when notice it’s a second hand laptop computer. Perhaps warranty is no longer valid.
Anybody experiences in second hand laptops and warranty??

Would be nice to know.

other question… what about vat and tax on import.? i have heard that they ask 50 procent at the custom check. and a fine if we don t declare it. so should i trough the manuals away of the camera a T30 i bought here?
what do you guys think about it.

send the manuals and packaging by regular mail to your final destination. there are no duties on computers and hardware; however, there is duty paid on bags. technically, if you are importing something officially in the eu you should pay the vat at the border but for a small electronic item like a second hand notebook i would not declare it.

i have had 9 sony vaio’s over the years. i never sent one in for repair. sure, my dvd stopped working on my tr1 but that is about it. its a sony so to save 1.500 eur i would grab it.
