I’m wondering if I can replace my T30 DVD/CDRW drive with a DVD+-RW drive, one that is not the UJ-822(B). I think wath i’m trying to ask is if I can use some other DVDRW drive on my T.

Also if it can be done, is it easy or involves some kind of modification of the drive?

Probably you should use UJ-xxx series with 9.5mm height to upgrade your drive. If you have T3 series, you have dual layer burner already and that is UJ-832 drive

I’m sorry i made a mistake there. My notebook is a T130 (VGN-T130FP/L) not T30. The reason of my question is that i can get a dvd burner drive here at work. But i doubt i can get one of the UJ-xxx series :? . I was hoping to buy a dvd burner (i think it was a pioneer one) but i don’t know if i can use it on me T130. Does any one have tried using a drive that is not panasonic/matshita?

You can use it with only 9.5mm in height drive. And one thing that if it can replace faceplate.
