Hey guys my TR1MP has a 30 GB HITACHI hard drive, i really need to upgrade it as i need more space and i have found Hitachi Travelstar C4k60-60 60gb 1.8in Ata-6 4200 Rpm 2mb 15ms.

Would that work and is an ATA 6 the one i need? anyone else done this?

any advice would be great thanks.

hey dude, yes it will work, but… you’re gonna need a new hdd molex connector as the hitachi takes a diferent connection, and also, the hitachi drives tend to last longer as theyre more solid built compared to the toshiba drive, the molex connector alone will run you in at $60.00 or £35.00 GBP, get yourself on ebay and look about 8)

I’m in the same predicament. Bought a new Hitachi 60GB drive, just took the laptop apart and found it has the Toshiba hard drive and connector. I did a quick ebay search on Molex connectors and couldn’t find anything relevant. Does anyone know where I can get the hitachi connector?

For the Hitachi drive, the HDD cable part number is 1-689-155-11
For the Toshiba drive, the HDD Cable part number is 1-688-245-11

I purchased a Toshiba MK-6006GAH 60Gb hard drive, but my TR1MP had a Hitachi drive in it.

Do I just need to buy the relavent HDD cable, or do I need to also purchase the other parts like the brackets, sheet, screws etc.?

You don’t need the screws, because the ones you have are the same part.  You may also be able to mold the original sheet to match.  But, because the physical connections are different, you will need the drive brackets and the cushion.  Notice that there are left and right brackets for the Hitachi drive (these are rails that connect to the sides of the drive).

This was my reason for posting the links to ImpactComputers .. even though they are the most expensive (hint: I wouldn’t recommend purchasing your parts from them).  You can get the part numbers from the forum link at ImpactComputers to price the parts at the other links.

I have the opposite problem, my TR1MP has a Toshiba Drive and I bought a Hitachi. Do you want to swap connections? I can post you the Toshiba interface and mounts if you are willing to send me the Hitachi interface and mounts.

I would like to confirm whether the “Travelstar C4k60-60 60gb 1.8in Ata-6 4200 Rpm 2mb 15ms” works OK in the TR1-MP and what connections I may need to buy. 

I have had a similar problem with my HDD failing (30GB Hitachi HTC423030F9ATD0) and purchased what I thought was an appropriate replacement (HTC426030G5CE00 - Travelstar C4k60-30 30gb 1.8in Ata-7 4200 Rpm 2mb 15ms).  Needless to say the connections for this drive are compeltely different!!! :oops:  Does anyone know if connections are available and mounting brackets etc to make this drive fit? 

Failing that I want to upgrade to the 60GB Hitachi but just want to make sure, before I waste money on another drive, that I can fit it.  Does the 60GB hitachi use the same connections and bracket as the original 30gb Hitachi?
