nothing shows up in My Computer when i plug my LaCie 120GB external firewire hdd into my tr2. i use the 6pin-4pin adapter. please help.

Is the drive powered by AC power?

Are you using a 6-pin to 6-pin cable with 6 to 4-pin adapter? Or are you using a 6-pin to 4-pin cable? If it’s the former, perhaps the adapter is the culprit.

If you have other Firewire devices laying around then you might be able to test them as well to make sure you don’t have a faulty port. You could also plug your TR directly into another system that has Firewire and see if the two systems see each other. They should automatically sense a connection.

yes it’s AC powered.

the adapter is actually the one made by Apple that comes with my iPod. :D perhaps it doesn’t work with other drive?

I have a lacie firewire external disk and it works flawlessly with my tr1. Maybe it’s the cable…

Yeah, i suspect it’s the cable as well. Invest a few dollars and get a 6 to 4 pin cable and see if it works better.

I also have a lacie 180 gig fw, it plugs and plays all of my laptops and pcs, inc my tr1mp. As with the others I would say the cable, but you should be able to eliminate through trial and error

just a thought, my lacie fw hd didn’t work first time when I plugged it into my toshiba laptop, I had to enable it in the computer managment section in windows, go control panel - Admin tools - computer management and click on disc managment. you should see if its on the system and enable the drive

I also had to give mine a drive letter in the same computer management section before it showed up.

The lacie support people took me through it, you will get it working ok, just make sure the system can see it, it it can’t its the cable

ooops it’s the file system!  :D my lacie drive is formatted as Mac OS Extended. how stupid am i! :(
