Namaste! This month AnimalNepal (www.animalnepal.org) in conjunction with our friends at Asia for Animals ( http://www.asiaforanimals.org ) are focusing on the export of monkeys to America from Nepal for “research.” It’s bad enough that so much has been taken from the Nepali people during the past decade of civil war, now it seems that even the Lord Hanuman is no longer protected. So may we ask for just one moment of all of your collective time to sign an online petition?
“Petition to Stop the Export of Nepal’s Monkeys and Associated Research”
As of this writing, over 75 people from around the globe have signed. We are hoping for 10x that many in the next week or so.
Some of you may be familiar with my cartoon “The Adventures of Herojig” printed in the Nepali Times each Friday ( ). While the humor is often oblique, obscure, or challenging for the average Nepali reader, it’s always serious about helping all sentient beings. One of the more popular characters has always been Sanjeeb the Nepali Space Monkey ( ), who was created to make the point that Nepal’s monkey population is being exploited by American Researchers (and Bio-tech firms) and this practice should be stopped. But now with this well-crafted petition, we can all help make that same point clear. The volunteers of AnimalNepal will hand-deliver the petition in just a week or so, as the new government is starting to settle in and re-write the constitution. We all want better animal welfare legislation for Nepal, as we have been working to that aim for two years now.
