I ony use standby and never leave the power plug connected when the laptop is unatended. I had no problems in the past two years, except from the busted motion-eye draining the battery in no time. I figured it was a short in the camera since it was getting hot while in standby and the problem went away after disconnecting the internal camera plugs.
Now, every time when I’m reconnecting the dc plug, there’s a high pitched whine coming from the laptop. Sometimes it stops on its own, sometimes i have to remove the dc plug from the tr2 and reinsert it. After resuming from standby, there is a series of clicks/squeaks coming from the laptop, the screen is switching bright/dark and the charging icon goes on and off in the system tray. If I let it run on power for some time or if there’s enough charge to run on batteries for several minutes, this problem goes away. This is also getting worse since the time needed to “recover” is increasing on every iteration. I suspect the “whiner” is a coil in the power circuitry and the “clicker” an optocoupler or something alike.
I am still hoping for a weak/bad solder point. Eventually, I am going to open it for a througher checkup.
