setFsb and you’ve got a 1246 MHZ running tr2 (normal 1ghz)

no pb during AC operation / not tested with battery

Excellent.  Nice Job.  Would you know if this would work with the S series Vaio?

I’m going to try it on my S in the next day or so…but only to see what the battery implications are. I actually normally underclock my S 1.7GHz to increase my battery life a little but I’ll try this for the sake of experimentation.  :wink:

I’ve tried it yesterday and it froze my S.  Thought I might have done something wrong on the first try so I gave it another go, but I got the same results.

Yeah, it is a hit and miss type of thing. I would suspect that the ULV and LV chips probably have a better tolerance for running over spec than plain Pentium Ms (Dothan or Banias). ULV and LV chips are held to a higher standard than the regular voltage chips. On regular Dothan Pentium Ms, the basic design allows for up to around 22-24W during regular usage with a pretty high thermal limit. ULV chips have a crazy specification of 5-10W during regular usage so there’s a reasonable amount of headroom to push the ULV chips.

you can use notebook hardware control to lower the voltage while overclocking and thus maintain the same power drain from the battery, with higher processor freq.
