Hey guys

My Lacie external USB 2.0 250 GB hard drive doesnt show up in My computer. The hard disk shows up as an external USB device in the safely remove hardware tab thingy, but i cant access it !!!

I tried removing the Maxtor Hard drive and connecting it to a IDE cable with the cs, master and slave settings with no luck !!

Any ideas how to get around this .. ?

Its a Maxtor Diamondmax 10 drive model number 6L250R0. I ran the diagnostic utility from the website, and it detects the hard drive before asking me to format it. I cannot format the damn thing it has almost 240 gbs of data on it !!!! Im so screwed , please help !!!!!!!

I also ran the disk management from my computer but its converted my drive to dynamic and i dont know whats the point to that ?

Not sure if this helps you, but I had a similar problem. I am using Maxtor One Touch II and one day the device suddenly cannot be recognized by the OS. I was copying some huge chunks of data with firewire when the problem occurs. Since then, the maxtor cannot be detected by the OS. I have tested it with my home PC, my sony TR and my office computer and the result is the same. I called up Maxtor and got their assurance to break the warranty seal so that I can connect the 300GB hdd to my computer via IDE and that works. That’s how I managed to “recover” all my data.  :D

The problem was due to the chipset in the Maxtor One Touch II being corrupted. They replaced the whole unit for me. Anyway, I had stopped using firewire on this bugger since then. Good luck to you.

I already connected the hard disk to the IDE in my desktop. It doesnt help. I have made an effort to use GetDataBack for NTFS to recover data. But i’m still looking for a way to restore to the drive, I’m wondering now if the MBR is trashed if there is anyway to find what the problem is using a third party tool

Any help would be appreciated
