A while back I bought a 60gb Toshiba disk drive for my old SRX77 notebook to replace the tiny 20gb it came with.  I just got what was cheap, not really thinking beyond capacity.  I want to replace it with something else because it’s just too loud, and probably slower than alot of stuff out there.

I think a good, quiet and fast disk drive would breathe some new life into the notebook I love.

Suggestions?  ...60gb would be ok too, I don’t care about price.

Is speed a concern? I like the Seagate Momentus 2.5” 80-100GB drives, the 5400RPM models are fast, quiet and power efficient. The 5400RPM models are supposed to consume as much power as the 4200RPM models. They also come with a 5 year warranty which is pretty nice.

Seagate sounds like solid advice and I’ve heard nothing else so I’ll get the one you suggested.  Thanks.

or if you intend to run that machine 24/7, suitable hdd would be
Hitachi Travelstar E7K100 series (the letter E is important)

yep, go w/ momentus…good balance of quiet and speed…the travelstar i used in my R505 seemed to noisy and got pretty warm, swapped it out for a momentus and havn’t looked back…just picked up a 60gb to replace the HD in a family members notebook that was failing…again, breathed new life into a previously slower machine (4200rpm).

Anyway, w/ a 5 year warranty, and reasonalby priced, you can’t go wrong.

I recently bought an 80GB Seagate Momentus on ebay link and am quite satisfied, thanks to you guys for the advice.

To make things sweeter, I sold the old 60gb Toshiba drive on ebay for a dollar less than I paid for the new one so it was basically a free operation.

Will the Seagate Momentus replace my original 40gb Hitachi hard drive? I thought I read one here somewhere that the connectors are different between the Hitacti and Toshiba drives. Is that correct? And lastly, what is the maximum size hard drive that can be installed on a TR3A? Thanks!

No the seagate thier talking about is 2.5 inch the TR has a capacity for only a 1.8 inch hard drive at 4200 rpm speeds. The biggest capacity right now for 1.8 HD’s is 80G. So this is not for you. And yes the connectors are differnt for hitachi and toshiba so since you have hitachi buy another hitachi unless your friend or someone has spare toshiba connectors for you. There pretty equal HD’s but some what more people lean toward toshiba but just get the hitachi its all good.
