I just got my TR2AP3.  Is there a difference between the recovery disks from the TR1A and the TR2AP3?

I have a TR2-AP3 and the recovery disks that Sony sent me say “Recovery DVD; PCG-TR2AP”. Below that, the version is listed as G226.0.

According to Sony there are different ones for each model (TR1, TR2) and for each version (TR2a, TR2ap1).

According to Sony Rep I spoke to, a TR2AP1 Reco disc will not install on a TR2A…I tried to get XP Pro outa him when he sent the Reco DVD to me…he said he’d send it but it won’t install.

Knowing how tight sony is with their software, I think I believe him.

Before my Recovery DVD set arrived from Sony, I burned the TR1 set I downloaded and tried it, but it didn’t work, so it probably is machine-locked.

I’m a newbie in this TR forum and planning to get a TR3 soon…. Something I’m not sure is, can someone please confirm with me that will I be supplied with a Recovery CD (in the box) when I buy a brand new machine (say TR3A) from Sony? Or I have to download and burn it by myself…? (which sounds weird to me…as I had all the Recovery CDs supplied when I bought my GRX670….)

By the way, I’m wondering if I get the TR3A which has the XP Home Edition, can I upgrade the XP to Profesional by myself (as I already have the original XP Pro)? Are all the drivers of TR3A compatible with the XP Pro?

Please share with me if anyone knows/has issues when they tried to upgrade the system from Home Edition fo Pro.

usually in europe they come with a recovery dvd included.

What about in US? Do they supply a Recovery DVD in US? As I’m planning to buy a TR3 next month when I go for a business trip in state….

No. You will get a program that will allow you to burn a set of CD’s or if you have a DVD burner, a DVD.

Best to find out specific details when you are ready to make a purchase. The Sony TRs seem to be customized per region/country.

I got mine in Asia (Singapore). It came with a nice boxed set of 3 Recovery CDs (they even had different silkscreen designs/colours per disc). There is also no recovery software/partition on the TR2 itself, ie. I got the full 37.2GB, partitioned into C & D Drives (13GB/24GB).

Btw, the salesman here claimed that most of the “local” USA TR models are made in China, as opposed to Japan. Is this true, or just a sales gimmick?

Have u installed the XP Pro already on some machine ? If yes, then I doubt u can activate it since during activation time on ur laptop the microsoft thing will inform u that the serial has already reached its max no of activations. Atleast, thats what happened with me for a serial I had already used on an earlier laptop.

Well, finally I have got a TR2MP in UK instead, where it comes with XP Pro!  :D Although it is much more expensive to buy it in UK compared to US, but at least I have got the built in Bluetooth and XP Pro which has saved me the hussle in re-installing the XP Pro myself.  8)
