I recently ebay-ed an extended six cell battery from Power america. I paid 90 bux including shipping, got it in a week or so, and couldn’t be happier. I’ve been fretting about battery explosions ever since i got this laptop so i never bought it before. Nowadays, my TR is a bit old and i guess i’m looking for an excuse to upgrade….but this isn’t going to be the reason why.
The battery is reliable, registering 6+ hours runtime, and is recognized by sony’s power panel. It even lists the manufacturer as Sony, though i think that it wou;d do that for any battery. I"m currently showing:
Full Charge Capacity 73.21Wh
Design Capacity 73.21Wh
IMHO, this battery is very worthwhile and i see no reason to pay the 300+ dollars that sony charges. A downside could be that the battery doesn’t “exactly” fit. It’s a little bit off at the seam and can be a bit of a pain to remove the first few times (it gets really stuck in there) until you get used to it.
On another note, i also ebayed a 10$ power supply since my sony one went bad. The damn thing just wouldn’t charge. It’s this one:

Once again, a bit of worry that it would blow up my machine or do random weird things, but it works like a charm. Including shipping i paid less than 20 bucks. It doesn’t have the lit tip nor is it as thin or as sexy as the sony branded one, but what the heck. I refuse to pay 100$ for a power supply.
We gotta start buying these off-brand sony accessories and stop falling for sony’s standard “it’ll invalidate your warranty” line of BS. Mebbe that way, they get it through their heads that their accessories shouldn’t cost more than most laptops.
