[quote author=“islandmanagers”]Well, Sony sent my T250 back to me the first time, saying it was repaired and it wasn’t. Then they wouldn’t expedite the second one. Frankly, I NEED my computer and cannot afford to keep sending it on holidays to San Diego!! I believe this is a poorly engineered product that they rushed out to capitalize on the ultrportable market BEFORE they had worked out all the bugs. To make matters worse, they won’t stand behind the product. They told me my T250’s repairs would cost more than it’s value. I am plinking away on a DEWll now that is 2 1/2 years old so it’s not like my environment is a laptop killer. My TX DVD drives just sporadically kicks on for no reason all the time. The DVD drive on my T250 only worked half the time. Yours has problems too - what does this tell you?
It doesn’t tell us a whole lot. That said, I’m sorry you’ve had a bad experience with your T and TX. From the various Sony forums that I frequent, this doesn’t seem to be a widespread problem. Sony Service could definitely be way better as I’ve had my run-ins with them as well. Although, they’ve messed up my service twice…the San Diego service center is so much better than the Texas service center. Every time they’ve messed up, I’ve gotten them to rectify the problem to my liking. You just have to stay on top of them and keep good records. I always ask for names and ID numbers.
In terms of your DVD drive kicking in for no reason, I’ve found that certain software (especially poorly written programs resident in memory) can randomly access stuff and make things frustrating. I personally had that situation on my Sony TR. A safe mode boot confirmed it wasn’t a hardware issue but rather a software issue as the problem never occured in safe mode. So, you may want to check what kind of programs you’re running in the system tray, on startup, and in your services to see if some program that you may not need running is causing the problem.
