For those of you who are interested in what course the Sony TR series might take you may want to check out this article at the Inquirer.

So, what you’re basically looking at is a “better” Pentium M with the larget 2MB cache. I wonder if they will come up with new model numbers like A variants to distinguish between 1MB and 2MB cache models.

The new chipset will bring us a lot of goodies like a higher performance bus, PCI Express, higher quality video and audio, and possibly more wireless connectivity options. Of course, it will be up to the manufacturer to take advantage of all of these new features. Hopefully Sony will and we’ll finally see a true next generation TR later this year.

Looks like there’s some exciting stuff going into the next-gen Centrino platform. With the die shrink the CPU should use less power, so hopefully battery life will stay the same even with the other added features. I thought the battery life on my PowerBook was great, but the TR2 outlasts it by about 45 minutes. I’s like to see the integrated graphics solution with incorporate hardware T&L as well as dedicated VRAM. Usually I wait until the first revision of a new generation product to buy, like skipping over the TR1 (tough to do) for the TR2.

not to kill the excitement but i’m still hoping Apple will come out with an ultraportable laptop like the TR2. :D coz the only drawback of my TR2 is that it’s not running Panther.
