lord, what next? look at this report from dlink status and tell me what to do, please! my isp thinks it’s me, and i think it’s them. i am PPOE without a modem, just a straight connect out of the dlink 604 router to their servers, with a small lan behind the router, to include the infamous fanless TR3. SMURFs are islowing my broadband down to 1 or 2 kbs.  driving menuts. :oops:  :cry:  :cry:  :cry: 

i think it may be caused by having two routers on the same subnet named 192.168.0.1 yes? but i only have one… so is this a virus on my end?!? i think not, i’ve scanned the TR3 and other machines on my man to death.

But i did notice a strange thing about one desktop, network diagnostics (ms help) thinks there are two network adapters running, but i only see one when logged in. Could that be it?  Here is just one page of thousands:

You may also want to go here and test to see how “invisible” you are to the rest of the Internet. It’s a neat diagnostic to tell you how secure your ports are.

thanks for that cool link, i passed all the tests but https://www.grc.com/port_113.htm.  i see the recommendation there, should i do that?

the smurfs are gone, downloads via P2P are fine, but web browsing has become really slow and unreliable since i lowered the MTU in the rounter. Do I have to adjust lan machine mtus now? this stuff is nuts!!

dam, i used to know something about networking back in the day (NT and windows 3.1). no i am clueless. i don’t understand why some machines on this lan i just created are connecting thru a Gateway, extra network icon.  my tr and desktop in my room dont.  maybe the users used the wizeard and made strange choices? but it’s working, so until i understand it, i don’t want to break it.  this must be hell for real admins. i found trojans and all kinds of stuff on these guys machines and told them had to reformat before plugging a wire into my router. :wink:

my isp is clueless. ive torn my lan apart looking for the answer within. i’ve read dozens of presentations obviously written to get a corporate trip to vegas, i don’t know what else to do.

i direct connected each box on the lan to the ppoe provider (without the router) - same results. i reinstalled windows on a box. they are still attacking. the only clue i have is that during direct connect i get this in the event viewer, which i think is saying the same thing as the dlink router:

look, im a buddhist, but if i find these smurfs i think i will wring some smurf necks.
