Started my laptop the other day and I can barely view the sceen.  The VGA out still works, but nothing seems to increase the brightness of the LCD display.  Anyone know what part could have failed?  Is it the inverter?  I’d like to fix it.  I have a PCG-TR2A.

have you at all ‘‘fiddled’’ with the adobe gamma manager in the control panel? also what colour profile are you using? if it is hardware, then it should be the inverter, when they fail you lose the white cathode lighting, if you still have some light then i wouldnt diagnose the inverter as being faulty because they basically create a super high but ambient voltage, when these fail, they fail for good so its definately lights out, have a look on ebay, TR parts are always on sale as you dont want to end up spending $200 on a inverter from NR parts in the USA,
