A better support !

- Bios update for intel 852/855GM for 1280x768 resolution on Xfree
- Native drivers for intel wireless 2100 card
- Specifications of the “Motion eye” usb cam

I don’t think you need a BIOS update to get 1280x768 res in Xfree. It’s down to Xfree to add support for it.

I think Intel are going to do Linux drivers for the 2100 card, just have to be patient.

I don’t fancy your chances on the driver for the Motion Eye though.

I contact Intel for the VBIOS problem under Linux here are the questions/answers

I bought a Sony TR2A laptop and there is no way to run xfree in 1280x768 mode the problem seen to come from the bios, the mode is not listed… So without a fix we will never have this resolution working and it will be too bad…

Can you do something for us, i’m not the first in this case.

Make sure that you have the highest available memory selected for the “Frame Buffer Size” in the BIOS setup utility.

The Linux graphics drivers for the Intel(R) integrated graphics controller use the Video BIOS (VBIOS) to set video modes. Since the VBIOS does not support this mode, it is not supported in Linux* either.

I have downloaded new video driver on your web site vs14.0 inside i see
a new version of the VBIOS but nothing about how to install it ?

Thank you for contacting Intel(R) Technical Support.The only way to update the VBIOS for your graphics controller is by downloading and running the latest BIOS update from your motherboard manufacturer. This file will contain the latest VBIOS as well.

There is no method known to us to update just the VBIOS since it is a component of the motherboard and will require that the motherboard BIOS be altered as well.As a general corporate policy, the technical support staff does not comment on unannounced Intel(R) products, future technologies, or technology trends.

Peraps a day VBIOS will be update

OK a question then, I don’t have my TR yet but I assume that Windows XP picks up the display resolutions that the TR can display automatically to provide the 12xx x 7xx res. This would be a combination of what the hardware supports, the display driver and what XP sees the LCD as being capable of.

All I’m saying is you don’t have to run Sony modified display drivers, there is a few people here running generic drivers off Intel’s site. It works fine in XP so why cannot Linux also work all this information out it’s self?

I’m not trying to knock Linux, just saying that I believe it should be possible without a BIOS update, just needs Xfree to pick this information up like XP does.
