I’ve been unable to get my Clie NZ90 to HotSync via the TR-1’s built-in BT.  Both “see” each other and I can push files, but when I try to HotSync I get an error msg on the Clie that says the COM port is in use by another device.  I’ve been through the whole drill of ensuring I have the proper configuration for the com port on the Palm Desktop.  Still no luck.

Interestingly, when I install an external BT dongle, the HotSync works fine.  One thing I do note that’s different, with the TR-1’s internal BT and BlueSpaceNE I have a VCOMM4 emulation but nothing shows up under device manager listing com ports.  With the dongle installed, I do get com ports listed.

Been round and round with Sony support on this, all complicated by the fact that I have a Japanese TR, a US Clie, and I live in the UK.

I’m beginning to suspect this is an issue with the way the internal BT is(is not) mapped to a virtual com port… but this is way out of my depth.

Any thoughts?

you are not the only one..i have trying forever to sync via bt with my ux50 with the tr’s internal bt with no luck.  :evil:

Forgive any errors, but over the last few weeks I’ve learned more about Bluetooth than I ever thought I’d need to know.

Bluetooth management is handled by WinXP (if you’re current on updates). All BlueSpace NE does is front-end for XP and does a lousy job. Once devices are setup and configured, you don’t even have to run Bluespace for them to work. (it’s loaded in the STARTUP folder)

If you go to CONTROL PANEL, WIRELESS LINK you’ll see all the BT devices that XP knows about.

Highlight a unit and hit PROPERTIES

Hold down CTRL+SHIFT and click on SERVICES. You’ll see a list of services that XP has identified in the device.

On my T68i phone, XP knows about 8 services. Bluespace either missed or gave a ? for at least two of them.

I notice it has an ADD button for new devices. One might get more functionality using XP to setup a device—or the limitations might be in Sony’s drivers. I haven’t found time to check it out.

I have a clie TH55 and a TR2MP with Internal Bluetooth, and I have no problem for doing bluetooth hotsync between them.

I got the same kind of error about com port already use, when my phone was already connected to my laptop and I want to hotsync at the same time.

Also, it’s better for some reasons (that I didn’t understand), to switch off your firewall while you make hotsync, it seems to works better.

i was having similar trouble after internal BTooth and widcomm drivers, but with a Tungsten T, no a Clie.  what i’ve found to be the difference is that i must keep a connection between my palm and laptop open in My Bluetooth Places.  if i close that windows explorer connection then hotsync give the port in use/busy error.  hope this helps…

I think there may be a way to “reserve” a com port for a particular device. When I was first setting up bluespace I got a setup box implying that. Can’t seem to figure out how to get into it now…
