USB external floppy drive and Sony Vaio bios inquiry.

Hello again TR World,

I also would like to purchase a usb floppy drive if possible; however, I have heard that many external usb floppy drives do not work with some Sony Vaio bios features; the end result being that you cannot use the external usb floppy drive as a boot drive.

Is this so? If so, do external usb floppy drives exist that do work with the Sony Vaio TR3A (the Sony Vaio I own) as a boot drive? If they do, where can I find them?

Update: Sony tech support informed me yesterday that they do not provide any support or assistance with using the Sony Vaio with any usb external floppy drives whatsoever.

I have a PCGA-UFD5 Sony external Floppy Drive and this works fine as a boot drive with my TR5.

I originally puchased it for use with a now dead Vaio GRX laptop.

What you have heard re cheaper alternatives is correct. They do not work as a boot drive on a Sony Vaio.

Hi

So if Sony supports no USB floppy drives, how are we supposed to upgrade our BIOS’s? From Windows? That sounds scary to me….
