Just browsing for alternatives I happened on this offering from ASUS:

Interesting, in that it offers the model in black or white, has 3 USB, has video out, and can be had with up to 2.13 Ghz Pentium M. This is a 12 inch widescreen. An 80 GB HD indicates it is definitely a 2.5”. Wonder if I can get it with a dedicated GPU; since it can be had with 2.13 Ghz CPU? Looks like a dual layer DVD option in the specs also.

I don’t think this model is in the U.S. yet though. Looks like a Sony S-series killer if it could hit the U.S. with DL DVD burner…what do you guys think? Not familiar with ASUS quality.

Seems nice, but has been out a while and offers no DVD RW solution, only a combo CDR.  You can find a bunch of info on this model over at notebook review.com in the in the forums under ASUS particularly from a tempermental U.S. ASUS distributor who contributes on a daily basis with good info (but with attitude) from proportable.com Some complain about the ASUS turbo fan noise and many about dead pixels and the poor policy of ASUS regarding dead pixels.  I looked the W5 over this summer, but decided to pass with all of the potential problems.  Incidently, ASUS does make laptops for several companies including Apple and Sony and recently started offering their own brand.  I will keep watching as this intrigues me.
