Funny I must have received a pre-production unit.    As I said in my review the fan is annoying.  Much more so than the T or TR.  I can honestly say that because I’m typing this on my T (fun running) and I can’t tell it’s on.  The TX on the other hand was just obnoxious.

I stay corrected - the guy sold the unit. I doubt that you got a pre-production unit. Some other folks experienced the same. They got their TX’es from Sonys Small Biz Site. I am waiting for one of my nuckle jobs to receive his TX651P/B by the end of the month and I will write a review myself.

Hehe I hope you didn’t receive a pre-production unit!  :oops:  The fan is a little annoying but I’m learning to live with it.  Though I can’t say anything much beyond that because I have Duffy’s laptop.  Not like I have another sample to test against, especially since the TXs don’t come out in Canada until Oct 20th.

It will be couple more weeks until I get my hands on one of those. Since I am known as the “clean installer”, most of my co-workers hand me their new laptops after 2-3 days of playing with it, for me to re-install. I even charge them three hundred bucks just for the fun of it, since they are lazy and can do them themselves and are wasting my time. This practice hasn’t stopped them…

I am a bit uncertain about what the situation will be regarding fan noise in a TX to be bought i UK in the beginning of November. Will a TX to be bought then be a machine from the first batch or from a second batch, where the fan noise problem has been solved?

In other words: Will it be safer to wait a little longer before buying a TX, just to be sure that the noise problem has been taken care of?

Well my order is in and i’ve been told i will receive my machine on tuesday / wednesday…. so fingures crossed i get a new batch.

Definitely let us know what you find…if this machine turns out to be quiet and relatively cool, I’m gonna go that route rather than my current plan of a T2/T3 series…I’m shopping around right now, will probably purchase in the next week to 10 days…

What do you guys think about the LED “light bleed” that the review talked about. For those who already have one, Is this a non issue? I was alittle confused if Sony was saying the issue will be resolved before official production or if it will be resolved with the next generation in this series.

It exists in the non-LED lit TR/T models as well..

The “package” is not perfectly sealed. I’ve argued that with Sony back when I had my TR.

I had to send back my T350P for the very same reason… to remove a hair under my glass.

Reflections, uneven surface (back and front), imperfections cause this effect.

If you had a 19” or 20” Dell Ultrasharp you should already be used to it..

Sorry for the delay, ive been slamed at work.

Got my machine and i think it’s great.

Yes the fan does cut in and out !! However the fan is very quiet and i do get long periods of dead silence. However when the fan does kick in, it goes on and off for short bursts which does nag slightly. The fan noise isn’t loud and if it was on consistantly you would barely notice.

Initially i thought there was no problem because in a normal work, home cafe, environment the fan noise isn’t audible, it’s only in the silence of a library etc. that you will notice.

Other than that the screen is stunning !, SD/MMC card reader seems particularly fast, keyboard and mouse pad are very comfortable and useable. The instant AV on is excellent for viewing photos from the sd card and dvd’s and certainly gets WAF (wife approval factor!)

I’ve heard a lot of comment about the size of the cd rom release and it’s a nonsence because there is a huge button right beside the power switch, not sure why they put a release button on the side at all !

There is an overhang over the PCMCIA slot and while it makes it a little more awkward to get at it is no by no means difficult and i had no problem with the insert! in fact the over hang does hide the extra bulge from my GPRS card and makes it look much better now.

Overall i’m delighted with the purchase, i was worried about the fan noise and if it hadn’t been at the forefront of my thoughts i don’t know that i would have particularly noticed it.
