[quote author=“gr00vy0ne”][quote author=“Gilbert”]How you like the HP TC1100? What are you using it for? I am still skeptical towards the tabletpcs. The software isn’t perfect and there are tons of things that need to be fixed.
In the first week of usage it’s good so far. I’m using it for my MBA program and it’s fantastic for taking notes and doing research. In some classes, it’s better with handwritten notes (where I need to draw diagrams) and in other classes, the keyboard is handy (if I decide to bring it).
It is the ultimate “lounging” document reading device. I can read my daily websites and online magazines with ease with the tablet pc in slate mode. Or, it’s nice to look stuff up on the web while I’m watching TV and easy to manuever around. The weight at 3lbs (with keyboard detached) is just right.
The pressure sensitivity is also really nice. I’m an artist in my spare time so being able to sketch very accurately is really neat. Anyone who does photo retouching or digital art will love the direct tablet usage.
It’s a fairly quiet system too although it does have a fan that kicks in pretty often. The good thing is that it’s relatively quiet (like the original Sony TR) and not noticeable when used in a quiet class setting unless you put your head near it. They really crammed a lot in the package since you can have up to 2GB (via SO-DIMMs) of memory, 2.5” HDDs (so up to 100-120GB at 7200RPM if you want), MiniPCI slot for 802.11a/b/g (using Intel or Atheros), integrated Bluetooth, and GeForce4 32MB video.
Tablet PC OS is surprisingly good and I hear Vista is even better so I’m not too worried about it. It reads my handwriting pretty well so I don’t have many complaints.
I plan on starting my second Masters and I might add this lappy to my ‘to get list’
I buy a lot of systems to try after convincing myself that I need them and end up not using them at all. I had the little U750P for few weeks but never used it and ended up selling it. I regret it sometimes but it was way too uncomfortable to carry in a pocket.
Same thing with my PSP ... since I got it, I’ve played Gretzky NHL and that was it ... no real interest. We are getting slammed with technology that we cannot fully utilize
