hey all

first time here, wish i had found this place 18 months ago ie when i first got my tr2.  anyway for the first time, includes a world travel and neva been cleaned (proabbly what caused the prob in the first place), my lappie has decided to play dead.  its being rebuilt at the moment but i was wondering if any one can tell me if i can get a 60g hd to replace the existing 40.  brands model website will be loads of help

Hey welcome to the forum :D

An upgrade of the HD depends on what make you have to start with.  If you have a Toshiba HD then you can get a 60GB version.  If you have the Hitachi then you’re out of luck because it uses a different connector and Hitachi don’t do bigger 1.8” drives.

I don’t know where you can get the Toshiba drives from, but I know others will.

You don’t say wherebouts in the world you are, just so people give you relevant websites etc

im london based.  if memory seves me correctly then its a toshiba supplied internal hd. would be great if i could get the specs for the drive i need. 

also if anyone has tips to avoid for hd and sw install that would be real cool.

Well I think the code for the drive is MK6006GAH so a google search should find somewhere in the uk to get them from.

Is the MK8008GAH 80Gb drive compatible?

Possibly.  I would assume so if it’s the same physical dimensions, but don’t hold me to that!

Next step up from the MK6006GAH is the soon to be released MK8007GAH - not MK8008GAH (toshiba announced it almost a year ago, but has yet to hit the market .... gave up on it and got the 60gb last week:)  Looking at it closely though, the specs are different.  The 80g is 8mm high compared to the previous iterations, which sit at 5mm.  So, I’m thinking this will be a challenge to install in the already cramped innards of a TR laptop.
