Funny how stuff works. I’ve been checking out the very cool T Series at my local Sony Store, with intentions of picking one up in the next month. Then I run into the very, very cool TX on Dynamism. It can never be easy, can it?
While I’m fairly new to the “latest and greatest” in laptops, I’m not at all new in dealing with Sony. I used to sell high-end audio/video products, and dealing with Sony was a pain in the ass. Great company and products, but when it came to “release” dates (or even “projected” release dates), they were pathetic. Please don’t get me wrong- I’m not ripping on them. It is what it is. But since I am sort of new to this end, I was wondering what the typical lag time is between a Japenese release and a US release? I’ve always been a strong proponent of buying from an authorized dealer, for very obvious reasons. While Dynamism looks like a decent company with a great concept, I’m a little leery about shelling out thirty three hundred dollars to an internet business dealing in consumer electronics.
I understand how you feel. When I first decided to buy my x505 I knew it would never be released to the US and the only way (besides eBay) that I could get it would be through an importer. I have no experience with Dynamism, the only negative thing I have heard (which isn’t all that bad) is that they do not give both an original and a custom restore CD and they don’t always use the full original packaging. Both of these complaints/issues were based on members of this board and their experiences. I personally chose icube as my importer and couldn’t be happier. When it came time to buying my U, instead of going direct from Sony, as I could have, I decided once again to go through icube even though it was a bit more expensive. I found that the customer service was on a level that I would never get from Sony directly.
As for your question on release dates…once set, they are usually spot on. I haven’t seen anything that specifically states when they will arrive, but I don’t expect it to be too long behind Japan, maybe a month or two at the most. If you need a notebook right now, you don’t have much choice.
Just as a side note, I dealt with Dynamism when I purchased the HMP-A1 - Sony Hard Disk player and X505 Executive Briefcase and the service was great as well. I ordered and it shipped the same day, if something is wrong, they will ship your JP products to Japan for repair for you. So I had no problems with them as well.
I spoke with a Sony sales manager today who said that an October 23rd US release date has been set for the new TX models. He didn’t have any other information. Do you guys think it’s legit?

Yes, but they will get it when the Japanese give it to them, not a moment before and with no lead time. This makes it absoluely impossible to coordinate promotions with the US companies (particularly the hardware and video games divisions). :?
[quote author=“ngvuanh”]It will be great if US also has fiber-carbon model.
For some reason, I don’t think the US is ready for CF. Almost everyone asks me about my X I tell them its CF and see blank stares back. The only people that have actually heard of it are Civic Ricers, and thats because of their black CF hood on their white cars. I can see the models sitting on the shelf. Of course, I hope i’m wrong, becuase I think it would really up Sony’s rep. to ship CF to the US.
I guess it depends on the circles you travel in. A lot of the people I know are aware of it due to things like carbon fiber golf clubs and tennis rackets.
Confirmed what? Erik said that the only people he knew that know what carbon fiber is are ricers. Most of my friends are familiar with the term “carbon fiber” and associate it with their graphite fiber rackets, skis, mountain bikes and golf clubs… not pencil leads.

I must say, you have a point…yet I don’t know anyone personally who is that into golf or tennis that would have CF (my golf clubs are graphite). I know they make CF parts for bikes (pedal as well as motor). I’m sure most car enthusiasts know as well. My general point is my 45 year old businessman most likely (IMO) won’t know what CF is. My basis for this, among other reasons, is that everytime I watch a car TV show and the car has CF they always explain what it is and how it’s made and why it’s so good…but they never do that with any other material…this leads me to believe it’s not a household name yet.
