Well Sony finally released another high end digital camera to replace its F828 (I guess). Nice specs, looks are very similar to the latest F series.

Actually, there’s a lot of debate on the fact of it’s being the replacement for the F828. Since there are so many of the F828’s features missing from the R1, people on photography forums are speculating that this camera is in a class of its own and that Sony will release the long-awaited successor to the F828 as well.

Still, it’s a lovely camera. The only thing I don’t understand is the entire lack of any movie mode. But perhaps Sony did that to be taken seriously in the DSLR class.

It totally depends on what your needs are since the cameras aren’t necessarily in the same category even if they look like they are. The F828 is certainly a very capable camera and obviously, the R1 (being 2 years newer) will have new bells and whistles but not exactly the same functionality.

If anything it will probably lower the price of the F828 which makes the F828 a better deal.

I just can’t take sony seriously there :wink: and for that price I’d get a new canon.  I’ve had a digital rebel 300d since release, upgraded the firmware with the russian hack, and it’s the best damn (cheap) still camera albiet a slow shutter for sports and low pixel (6.1). But i had some good canon lenses from my old EOS film camera so it was a good investment. But now my eye is on the Canon EOS 5D, however I need a job to afford it.

Anyway, the Sony has nice specs.  Hopefully it works better then the TR Motion Eye :wink:

i still likef828 since it integrates with movie mode. i think it’s good sometime to have it in hand.
